If like me, you are looking for simple little projects to knit that don't take a long time and are easy to do, then you will love this little purse. I think it would be even better if it was lined with some cotton, but that would be me.
At least the knitting part of it is easy. She uses 25 cast on stitches of a regular weight yarn. You could change this to whatever size works for you especially if you want to use leftover yarns. This is a great leftover project!
It could also be decorated with more bling than the ribbon in the video. You could sew all kinds of beads to the front and then sell them at your next craft show or give them out for gifts. Each one could be totally personalized too! Check out the dollar store for lots of bling ideas.
So it may start out as a very simple knitting project, but doesn't have to look simple. She sews in a zipper and it is done. You could change the size of this to a larger bag and maybe even attach handles. There are so many possibilities! You could make 10 of them out of the same yarn and yet each one could be totally personalized!
Great for Craft Shows or to Sell
I thought this was such a cute purse to knit. It is done in the plain garter stitch so perfect for beginners. There is really no set pattern so you can make them as long or as short or as wide as you want.
If you sell knitted crafts at craft shows, or even online, these would make great crafts because the time involved in not much and the design is simple. You could knit this quickly while watching TV.
Add a Lining
You could also head to your local fabric store and check out the remnants bin where you can get bits of fabric for really cheap and cut slightly larger than the bag by about 1/2 inch all round, and then fold in half just like the purse and sew the side seams, (right sides together) then press open the side seams and then press the top down 1/2 inch to the wrong side and then simply fit the lining into the knitted purse and sew around the top with a needle and thread before adding the zipper.
This will give it a more finished look inside. But this is a personal choice. I just thought it could add some color and bling to the inside for holding change and small things. I find heavier cottons work great for linings.
Add the Zipper
Just the way she does it in the video, but if you make your purse a bit too wide based on the type of yarn you used, no worries, simple sew the top closed up to the zipper on both sides (center the zipper) using a needle a thread of same color as knitting if possible.
This knitted bag or purse definitely comes under the category of "easy knitting". The decorating part is up to you afterwards. But at least the basic design is fast and easy. This is the type of knitting I love!
My name is Diane and I love all arts and crafts including painting, drawing and knitting (I painted the bee above!) I decided after many years to take up knitting again and needed simple patterns that I could do while watching TV or listening to music that would help dial down stress. I hope you enjoy some of my own projects as well as ones I have found.
