Scarves have become a huge fashion accessory and of course the styles of them change each year.
As a knitter who loves to find easy patterns that are quick and fun to do, I came across scarves that you knit called a "Snood". Basically this is similar to an infinity scarf where there are no ends, but is not done as loosely as an infinity scarf. The idea behind a SNOOD is that you can also quickly put it over your head as a hood, basically a scarf and a hood in one... SNOOD.
They are also known as a COWL SCARF
So in fact the snood is a very useful and also fashionable hat. It will keep you warm and the wind off your neck and head. If you prefer to work from the printed patterns such as the one above, that is awesome, but personally I love to work with either a kit where everything is included or get my supplies and follow a visual pattern such as on You Tube as below. If you want a super fast project and something other than a simple scarf that you wrap around a few times, then try knitting a snood!
I love this video because she doesn't speak and puts on relaxing music. If you look around the internet you will see there are many different sizes of snoods to make. Some are simply small enough to be a neck warmer or quick hat, but I personally love the size she makes in this video.
I am always looking for easy and quick knitting patterns that I can do while watching TV or listening to music as she does in this video. I have taken knitting back up after many years away from it as a way to de-stress and keep my blood pressure down. To do this I have come away from seriously complicated patterns which require too much attention and counting for me, in favour of simple and easy patterns that show results quickly.
As I was researching the SNOOD, I also came across a kit you can get on Amazon that includes everything you need. This is a great way to get started with knitting or if you are picking it back up after a number of years away from it. These snoods, make great gifts anytime of the year. You could make it out of lighter cotton knits for the nicer weather just to keep the chill off on cool days and evenings.
The above link is to a kit that includes knitting needles, and thick merino silk yarn. You can get the kits in different colours, but worth checking out if you are looking for an easy project. The instructions are full of pictures to make it easier to get started. These are super cozy and I think I actually prefer them to a typical scarf. I can use it as a hat and keep my neck warm at the same time.
Are you Inspired to Knit Yet?
Hopefully this inspires you to pick up those knitting needles and get started. With you tube there are loads of videos to get you started if you are new to knitting, but if it is a hobby you once loved but then life and electronics got in the way, I hope you will try it again. It is super relaxing working with these bigger yarns as you can see results quicker.
Knit a Snood for a Great Christmas Gift
Get started now and stock up on colorful yarns that you thing people on your list would love. Keep warm and look great at the same time. So give Snood knitting a try.
My name is Diane and I love all arts and crafts including painting, drawing and knitting (I painted the bee above!) I decided after many years to take up knitting again and needed simple patterns that I could do while watching TV or listening to music that would help dial down stress. I hope you enjoy some of my own projects as well as ones I have found.
